TITLE: THE LIGHT ACROSS THE STREET
FORMAT: British Quad (30 x 40 inches)
STARS: Brigitte Bardot, Raymond Pellegrin, Roger Pigaut. DIRECTOR: Georges Lacombe.
NOTES: French title was 'La Lumière d'en Face'. It was conceived as a French FILM NOIR thriller, with similarities to 'The Postman Always Rings Twice'. It was released in England under this title by Tony Tensor's Miracle Films. Tensor was the man who handled the release of Bardot’s first three films in Britain and coined the phrase "sex kitten" for Bardot. He was most closely associated with British sex and horror films of the 1950s and '60s and was quoted as saying "I would rather be ashamed of a film that was making money than proud of a film that was losing it." In typical Tensor style, this poster majors more on the fact that Bardot is in the film than on the film noir subject matter. It is difficult to date the poster precisely but this UK release was probably from the late 1950s or early 1960s.
