TITLE: MONSTER OF TERROR / THE HAUNTED PALACE
FORMAT: British Double-Crown (20 x 30 inches)
STARS: Boris Karloff, Vincent Price, Lon Chaney. DIRECTOR: Daniel Haller, Roger Corman.
NOTES: A nice double-bill of H.P. Lovecraft horror films. Monster of Terror (a.k.a. 'Die Monster Die?) was adapted from a story by Lovecraft and was filmed in England with veteran horror star Boris Karloff. Despite the low budget, the film manages a brooding atmosphere which is oppressive and claustrophobic and the sets were wonderful and nicely done on the cheap. The Haunted Palace was based on H.P. Lovecraft's classic short story "The Case of Charles Dexter Ward". The POSTER wrongly attributes this to Edgar Allan Poe, although this is pardonable as the film was part of Corman's cycle of Poe films and parts of the story were also inspired by Poe. This scarce double-crown is printed of thin card stock, rather than on the more usual paper stock.
