NOTES: Small card poster for the European premiere in Glasgow. Before opening at the Palace Theatre, London in March 1946, Emile Littler gave this show a trial run in Glasgow commencing on 18th December 1945. Littler’s spectacular staging of ‘Song of Norway’ went on to run for 526 performances at the Palace Theatre, London and it is notable as being the first Broadway show to cross the Atlantic after the end of the Second World War. Later in the year Littler took the show on a UK tour for three years and it became one of his most successful and lucrative productions. This card poster for the premiere is very rare. Either Littler or his publicity manager, Patrick Selby, has pencilled in ‘Emile Littler’s’ next to the printed words ‘Emile Littler Presents’ and so this probably went back to the printer for the necessary amendments – typical of Littler’s proprietorial style! Printed on card with ORIGINAL hanging chord at top, as issued.
PROVENANCE: The Emile Littler/Patrick Selby collection.
CONDITION: Grade A. Folded. VG.
