TITLE: THE SOUND OF MUSIC
FORMAT: 20.5 x 12.5 inches
VENUE: PALACE THEATRE, Cambridge Circus, London.
PRODUCTION CREDITS: Music and Lyrics by Rogers and Hammerstein.
NOTES: Rare poster for the ORIGINAL London production of The Sound of Music. The musical premiered in London's West End at the Palace Theatre on May 18, 1961, and ran for 2,385 performances. It was directed by Jerome Whyte and used the ORIGINAL New York choreography, supervised by Joe Layton, and the original sets designed by Oliver Smith. The cast included Jean Bayliss as Maria. Quite simply one of the most iconic and best loved pieces of musical theatre. Posters for the London opening are becoming increasingly difficult to find and can only become rarer as all available copies disappear into theatrical and museum collections.
PROVENANCE: The Emile Littler/Patrick Selby collection.
CONDITION: Grade A. Some edge creases/edge wear and small edge tears. VG. (NB. The areas of white which appear in the photograph at the foot and top left corner of the poster are reflected flash from the glossy paper and is not a fault in the poster).
